About Your Bath Vanity Countertop

When installing a new bath vanity, few homeowners give a lot of thought to the countertop they should have.  The countertop is one of the most important features of a bathroom and unless you choose the countertop to match the style of the vanity all your hard work could be in vain.

Not only is the countertop a functional space, but it can really enhance the look you want to create to complement your shower doors or bathroom fixtures. Since you can buy the sink and countertop as one piece, this eliminates the task of having to cut a hole in the countertop to allow for the installation of the sink.

In order to choose the best type of countertop and vanity, consider who will be using this bathroom on a daily basis. While you may love the look and feel of a granite or marble counter, this is not feasible if children will also be using the bathroom.

Depending on the size of vanity for which you have space, it may also be a more practical choice to have two sinks in the vanity so that two people can conduct their grooming at the same time. This will also mean you have more cabinet space for storage. You can use two mirrors or one large one that extends to both sinks.

The bathroom vanity and the countertop will be the focal point of the bathroom – the first thing that visitors will notice when they enter this room. There are many different styles to choose from to complement the overall decor of your home. If you want a traditional style cabinet, then you should look at vanities with legs that have intricate carvings. A more contemporary style would involve straight lines and metal accents.

The countertop you choose for your bath vanity should be durable, suit the color scheme of the room and be water resistant. It will also need to be resistant to humidity because of the steam from the shower. For a family with children, a countertop made of plastic laminate would be a good choice in the main bathroom of the home because they will last for a long time and are inexpensive.  Plastic laminated countertops come in a wide variety of colors.

In addition to plastic laminate, granite and marble, you can also have a wood bathroom vanities to match your bathtub or hot tub. This will add an element of rustic charm to the room and is a very affordable option because these countertops are not expensive.

The disadvantage of using a wood countertop is that it is not water resistant and is susceptible to rot.  You will need to have it enclosed in a laminate sheath to give it the waterproof properties it needs. You can choose a wide variety of wood products if this is countertop of your choice.

The use of a countertop is essential unless you have a freestanding sink. The countertop is the protection that you need for the material of the vanity itself and the things you store inside it. Concrete and limestone are two other types of bath vanity countertops that are increasing in popularity.

Another material is that of ceramic tile because of its durability and its water resistant properties. You should take your time in making this selection by browsing the choices at your local home improvement store and at online sites. This is a not a purchase you want to repeat every year or two so make sure you choose a countertop that will complement the rest of the bathroom.
